November 18

5:00 PM Today again by chance i ran into something very interesting. More than one third of all shrines and temples in Japan or about 40000 are dedicated to to Inari also called Ō-Inari. There is no exact number of how many temples are dedicated to Amatareasu, the main goddess there.

Goddess of fertility and prosperity, which fertility in antiquity is often associated with love and sex, in earlier forms she was also protector of swordsmiths and she started as a goddess there in 8th century.

Where am i getting at? It is not the first time i suspect similarities between Mesopotamia, Egypt and Japan. First because of sumo wrestling, of which name of course reminds of Sumer, Sun God worship which was prominent in Egypt, etc.. Now Inanna.

We are all familiar with many forms of ancient migration, but could it be possible then have all emigrated in large numbers, possibly by sea, under the pressure of Akkadians, a semitic people in a place chosen for its isolation, at the other side of the world? Nippur name seems to be related with Nippon, the name for Japan in their own language.

Inanna's connected animal was the lion but in Japan they were no lions so they may have switched to foxes.
