Obesity And Fatty Liver Disease

My wife keeps on telling me how bad the liver of an obese person looks. Yellow. Doesn't have its color anymore.

Basically the officially recognized mechanism is: you eat and drink yourself to death, then your liver turns into fat before turning into scars when you get cirrhosis.

Let me tell you my opinion. This is not the causal chain. (I think studies are big wastes of money or maybe ways to funnel money and bribe the society while making it believing that this or that medicine or treatment or diet is good.)

I strongly believe that people overeat and do get obese because of the toxic environment ant inherent toxicity of processed food and chemistry based agriculture.

The body defends itself by craving more food when available because some of the toxins are being temporarily stored into fat, like first in the transformed liver cells then into the other fat tissues of the body and some other toxins are being absorbed by the extra fiber from "cleaner" foods.

If the "temporary" conditions become permanent, then you remain permanently obese, get fatty liver disease, and/or cirrhosis.

Human body is pretty well adapted to the use of alcohol. Of course it's a factor but not the main cause.

Santa Claus

"Sinterklaas [sɪntər'klaːs] (or more formally Sint Nicolaas or Sint Nikolaas; Saint Nicolas in French; Sankt Nikolaus in German) is a traditional winter holiday figure still celebrated today in the Low Countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as some parts of Germany, French Flanders and Artois. He is also well known in territories of the former Dutch Empire, including Aruba, Suriname, Curaçao, Bonaire, and Indonesia. He is one of the sources of the holiday figure of Santa Claus in North America.[1]"

My opinion as a hobbyist in linguistics, is that the name Santa Claus name does not come from a child's mispronunciation of Sinterklaas or Saint Nicholas.

Where it's coming from? I have no idea but if you take the letter n from the middle of the word and put it at the end, guess what's resulting? Too much of a coincidence especially when we try and switch the spelling of the name Claus, which i never heard in US, to the more common word claws.

Don't know about the creation of the name or the character but the use of it and the taking of the main stage at Christmas after so many years raises questions...

Blog Has One Year!

One year since i started the blog. 277 posts. Never thought i would get here. It helped me a lot organizing my memories. Most of the posts contain old ideas triggered by daily facts but lately there are many posts regarding my daily life. With this occasion i also changed the name and address of the blog. One year from now and i will still find reminders of the old address and broken links. (:

:) Happy anniversary blog and thanks to all who ever read anything of it!

Romanian - Sanskrit Comparison

Cristian Ioanide - In Memoriam

"In principle, every difference between two related languages should be explicable to a high degree of plausibility and systematic changes, for example in phonological or morphological systems are expected to be highly regular (i.e. consistent). In practice, the comparison may be more restricted, e.g. just to the lexicon."

The generally accepted Indo-European theory in linguistics states that all languages in Europe and India have a common ancestor, the hypothetical PIE or Proto-Indo-European language.

However there are major disagreements regarding this hypothetical language and the reconstruction attempts so far lay in the domain of bizarre. No serious academic attention had been directed into reconstructing this hypothetical language. In dictionaries so far (like the Romanian Explicative Dictionary or DEX) though there are many basic words deemed as of unknown origin, generally attributed by some authors, mostly biased nationalist, to the Dacian language or the language we all assume it was spoken in Dacia before Romans arrived, there is not on single etymology given as PIE. In French i haven't seen a single word given of unknown etymology or as PIE but in both languages i found words that certainly remind me of Sanskrit. The English lexis may be also as rich as Romanian in Sanskrit roots. Interestingly enough, the words are distributed in different languages, as if Sanskrit divided or distributed separate chunks or lists of words to different inheriting languages though many are overlapping, like from English and Romanian.

It is almost impossible to believe that Romans did not keep or no archives are found regarding the different aspects of life in Dacia during their direct administration period which lasted some 165 years including basic lexis or pieces of written language. No written records are to be found in any archive about the Dacian language (with some dubious exceptions).

The subject of such records being hidden in archives for political reasons or even destroyed is a completely different story i won't start to dig in right now.

So personally following an intuition triggered by an anecdotal information i found in an article i read in early 90s which stated that a numbered a Romanian basic words are matching with perfectly similar Sanskrit ones like apa-apa (water), gand-gandiva (thought) etc. i tried to look in current online dictionaries like spokensankrit.org (formerly .de) just to verify. To my surprise they all seemed to have a Sanskrit corespondent, almost identical, down to pronunciation.

So i took the list of Romanian words of unknown origin (Wikipedia version) and started to look in that dictionary for more matches and found an abundance of words of undoubtful (to me) Sanskrit origin.

I assume the online dictionary mentioned above that is based on the widely recognized Monier Williams Sanskrit dictionary which is also available online from the University of Koln is still not complete though it numbers over half million entries. There are in there words that have obviously too many entered meanings [by volunteering contributors] of which some being even opposite, many probably coming from only one occurrence in an isolated text maybe used as metaphors. No one can tell. But i was pretty conservative in building this list and picked correspondences only from the roughly first 10-20% of meanings confirmed by the most redundancies (or close meanings) in the rest of the entered meanings staying mainly in the Monier Wiliams safe area. Interestingly, there are words, like gata that have the same corresponding many meanings both in Romanian and Sanskrit and this is obvious only for those who know Romanian as i cannot add more entries for words with different meaning in Romania being beyond the current purpose of this modest work.

Never finished checking that list because while browsing the dictionaries i started to find more and more words that where not on that list having a greater resemblance with Sanskrit words than with Latin or Old Slavonic (the precursor of all modern Slavic languages) of which etymologies are officially given in Romanian dictionaries and i started to build a list on a spreadsheet with all the words i could find that seemed to me closer to Sanskrit than Latin and Slavonic which are the officially accepted by academics main ancestors of Romanian language, besides the still largely unknown Dacian language. All words from the basic or day to day usage Romanian language lexis.

I also added verbs that seem similar in writting, pronunciation and meaning with nouns and adjectives in Romanian. https://sanskritstudio.wordpress.com/2013/03/05/the-sanskrit-past-passive-participle/. I am not a linguist but i assume in a few thousands years of separation some past participles may have morphed into adjectives and even nouns. Same thing happened in the dictionary itslef, noun from Sanskrit are translated like verbs in English.

Also while browsing this online dictionary i had the surprise to also come across many English words that seem to have a direct corespondent in Sanskrit of which some i added in a smaller list that is also included in this blog post.

My conclusion so far is there are many Sanskrit words in Romanian, maybe as many as 50% of the lexis of Romanian, but when they match, some of them identically as pronunciation, most of the time they do not coincide as first meaning. This indicates a strong but very old connection.

Could the reason for finding so many Romanian words of possible Sanskrit origin be the Dacian language was closed to Sanskrit which was also close to PIE. It is up to linguists in the future to follow these hypotheses. This work is by far not complete and i strongly believe what i found is intriguing enough to requires their attention. But i am also afraid many already knew about all these complex and contradictory issues, since i don't know, the first contact of modern western civilization with the eastern one, probably since German linguists Franz Bopp built the first known grammar of Sanskrit and for some obvious political reasons they chose to delay their findings until people of the world will be able to better deal with the Indo-European linguistic theory that if was to be applied would probably require extensive rewriting of dictionaries and why not, maybe history itself.

When i first started to study the lexis of Sanskrit i started to ask myself how i will pronounce the words. In the end i realized the pronunciation follows pretty much Latin, as the several existing transliteration types use mainly Latin alphabet.

However there is an alternate way to figure pronunciation. Since Google Translate cannot translate Sanskrit and there is no other site on the internet that i know of that can pronounce any typed words in Devanagari script one can trick Google Translate to pronounce Sanskrit as Hindi since Hindi uses the same alphabet and almost the same pronunciation.

So i added links to every word in the list (done with Google Spreadsheets) written in Sanskrit with Devanagari script so you can click on then on the little speaker icon under the box where the word appears to hear the pronunciation. Most of those words do not even exist in Hindi.

There are also links provided for every Romanian word to Google Translate for both translation in English to eliminate any doubt and pronunciation for comparison of pronunciation with the paired Sanskrit words and also links for every Sanskrit word transliterated with Latin characters to different dictionaries where i found that word. There are more than 700 links in total.

Google Translate is not particularly good with Romanian phrases although lately it got much better. However, for individual words it is acceptable. The computer generated pronunciation in Romanian is kind of rough, compared to the one in Hindi, but good enough for the purpose.

For Devanagari script pronunciation of each separate letter here is an easy to use interactive page.

For comparing the words i used the following on-line dictionaries and lists:

Sanskrit dictionary linkable per word and meaning

www.sanskritdictionary.com/ (default IAST transliteration)

Sanskrit dictionary linkable per word

Dictionary not linkable per word (need to manually input the words below)

For Devanagari script pronunciation of each separate letter here is an easy to use interactive page.

Here is also a link to a Google sheet that holds the same table with the table itself framed below in this blog post.

[On August 18 2017 i discovered spokensanskrit.de has changed to spokensanskrit.org. I am currently working to restore all broken links below. Already re-established first 100 links. For the new links you have to scroll right.]

Also here is a link to a much shorter list that probably could be much longer with English words that could have direct sanskrit etymology and also the table.

Dacian POW in 2nd Century AD

Sunset just ended. A few minutes ago it was really glorious. Grabbed my new little camera, remove the mosquito net at the small window above the sink in the kitchen and took a few shots. While at it i hear this diesel engine sound. A school-bus full of children just under the window. It's not the first time i see it. It probably comes from Eagle Crest from one alley and goes back to it on other. It's not picking or leaving anybody.

From the kitchen window, posting time. click to enlarge.

Talking about jobs. I remember my last one. Between April 06 and July 06 i had a brief job at a 76 gas station in Beaverton, OR. At that time it belonged to ConnocoPhilips and owned at least partially by Lukoil of ... Russia. I didn't know until after the orientation. Then, i also found out that Chevron uses additives in gasoline that are almost as good as 76s. And the fact that not all gasoline is created equal. And why we should never buy gasoline from store stations because they accept in their tanks the lowest quality, the one that all major gasoline suppliers refuse.

At the intersection of Cedar Hills and Walker Rd. Also as told at orientation, the busiest 76 and generally the busiest gas station in the NW.

12 pumps. 2 or 3 guys per busy shifts. Convenience store.

Curiously enough that job was between two major dental works. And i was on antidepressants at the time since the last time in the hospital in 75. Mirtazapin. My prescription was 30 milligrams, as agreed with the doctor, to be cheaper for me at copay and officially i was supposed to break them in two. But i was breaking them in 4 and getting only 7.5 milligrams. And i think that was too much as well. Now i think the only benefit of that was the antihistamine action of Mirtazapin. And i was not feeling myself. I was living like in a dream.

Dr. Jeff Call of Gentle Dental did a root canal and a crown. The crown was supposed to be ceramic only but then he switched to metal and ceramic. It still has some galvanic reaction if i touch the exposed metal part of it with a fork it starts hurting really bad.

Dr. Douglas Boyd of Portland did and apicoectomy. The apparent necessity of it was an overfill to a root canal done by dr.Negru of Aloha, OR. On July 27 2006, the same day when Mr. Băsescu, the President of Romania did a visit in Washington DC and the ex-Prime Minister Mr.Tăriceanu fell from his motorcycle. The surgery went wrong and i had to quit the job. I couldn't eat solid food for several month.

Later i found out that in fact the pain to that tooth was due to an insufficiency of vitamin C and probably a periodontitis. No surgery necessary. In fact i would not be fair if i wouldn't tell Dr. Boyd tried to convince me not to do it.

But what happened in between is more interesting. Job was officially part time. But due to the very busy nature of the place and the fact that they couldn't keep nobody to work there for long time because of being so busy and hard to run all day from one pump to another, it became full time and even over time.

The only guy who was working there for a long time before and after me was Charlie. Charlie the communist with the crooked teeth. He said he was communist but had no idea of what that was. He said he was an alcoholic, he would get pissed if he didn't have his beers every day.

After job i started chatting with other Romanians over the internet out of being so homesick and lonely. Started drinking Cuba Libre in top of antidepressants and started a blog which i later abandoned.

I caught a few days with temperatures over 100 degrees. At 46 and out of shape, i thought i was going to die but i didn't.

Each pump had a printer and most of the customers were asking for a receipt. But some times the printers were jamming or running out of paper and we had to run inside to get receipts from the cashiers. And had to stay in line with the other customers, that had priority. And one day, shy at first then more bold i started fixing the printers and refilling them with paper. Soon i became unofficially the guy who did that on my shift. It was like a promotion and it gave me an ascendance over the younger guys.

They were a couple of black guys, can't remember their names now. When i was coming to my shift, around 11 AM, i was almost every time finding them with half of the printers not working and with their tongs out from running inside to get receipts. So i was fixing those first thing.

One day i decided i should try and make them fix those for themselves. So i showed them how to do it when nobody was around so many times until they got probably annoyed and started doing it themselves. But only when i was there.

But when i was coming at my shift, again they were broken.

One day one of them got fired for no big reason.

I never realized why the thing with printers was happening. But lately when i realized the impossibility of me getting a job according to my experience and qualifications, i think i started to understand.

Some categories of people are not allowed around here to do certain "more qualified" types of works which are reserved for insiders.

It is very hard to understand from the article in Wikipedia. Let's put it simple. Let's say we have a guitar with 6 chords. Each chord has a different thickness. If it is normally tuned you can pinch one chord and make it vibrate and all of the others will stay pretty much put. You will hear only the chord that you pinched until the vibration get dampened by the friction with surrounding air.

But if you intentionally put on the same guitar or even on two different ones two chords of the same thickness and tune them to make the same sound, if you will pinch one chord pretty soon the other will start vibrate and make the same sound. It will absorb half of the energy of the first chord and they both will vibrate until will spend all the initial energy and die. We can say they resonate at a resonance frequency and that is the frequency you tuned them to.

In buildings. Especially in those made of panels. Each panel has its own resonance frequency and more than one harmonics. Most of them will be the same size but will not have the same frequency as are assembled differently depending on the contact with the frame. If you can find a way to transfer some vibration to the walls from a source at resonance, you can make them vibrate. In a building made of panels you will have practically all kind of resonances at a multitude of frequencies.

If you use a blower in the parking lot or a noisy car or a plane passes by, some of the panels will vibrate in resonance with the instant frequency of the blower that changes constantly sweeping a range of frequencies.

A multitude of scenarios can happen. Usually dust falls from the walls. Air gets pumped inside and outside the walls bringing very unpleasant odors, bacteria and fungus from the walls inside and nutrients from the normal dust inside back in the walls.

More complicated things can be imagined as some walls in the building will have different substances in it, like formaldehyde, smoke from neighbors, etc. Depending on the frequency, only some walls will vibrate and fill the apartment with a certain thing, on demand. Even the bottles under the sink with things like chlorine, 409, etc. Once i found them all with their cap loose.

Every internal organ of one's body must have a resonance, and it can be different from one person to another as organ sizes match the person's size.

Yesterday across the street somebody used a creosote sweeping log to clean the chimney. For about 4 hours the place was filled with creosote smoke and i felt terrible. Shortness of breath, knot in my throat, dizziness for several hours and ruining the rest of my day. I  think some of that smoke turned into dust and falls from the walls while vibrating.

The noise itself can be annoying in a residential area.

Last night around 11 i went to bed. I was tired and slightly buzzed as i had a glass of cheap red wine not long before. I was about to fall asleep when my wife came and opened the bedroom's window together with the balcony door.

I liked the fresh air coming from outside. I didn't like i was waking back up. Then several cars passed by. One of them made an unusual high pitch loud sound for about 30 seconds. Probably a defective transmission or a rattle. The room got filled with some very fine dust. Smelled like wood dust. I closed the window. Then i started feeling very ill. Arrhythmia when laying down. Probably systemic allergy.

I went back up and started pacing around. Every time i tried to go back to sleep i had shortness of breath and arrhythmia. I turned on the computer. Spent a couple of hours until i felt good enough to go back to sleep. Everything came back to "normal".

Right now across the street right now are blowing leaves with power blowers. If i open the windows there will be at least 50 dB flooding the apartment. But even with the doors closed my ears almost hurt although i don't hear much.

This to me is happening for at least a decade. Hours lost almost every day to it. Time ruined. Life ruined.

Today. For a few hours there will be leaves blowing in the neighborhood. Then at night creosote smoke. Slammed doors from the neighbors all day. A new week is starting.

My plan for today included applying for some jobs. Now i write in the blog.

In the city where it always rains three times in seven days
All the citizens on sideways,
Walk by two while holding hands,
In the city where it always rains three times in seven days,
Covered under old umbrellas
Sighing, bending,
Wet from raining,
All the citizens on sideways
Look like automated puppets taken out of the storefronts.

In the city where it always rains three times in seven days
You can only hear on sideways
Steps of those who walk by two,
In their mind
The falling
Of the raindrops from umbrellas,
From the gutters,
And from sky
With the power of a cry
Giver of a life that's latent,
And absent.

In the city where it always rains three times in seven days
An old man and an old woman -
Looking like two broken toys -
Walk on sideway hand in hand...

Guess Who's Buzzing Today

At 4:57 PM today i came from a short walk. My neighbor at Nr.9 came down the stairs with a pair of barking dogs when i wanted to climb so i backed down. I went to the car and then to the mailbox. Exactly when i reached the car, a plane flew just above the building. I mean, not 1500 feet as the legal limit, not 500 feet, not even 300 feet but merely ... what? 150 feet maybe? It could have touched the building at Nr.45 across the alley. Almost no noise at all which means the pilot cut the engines down to idle. Really dangerous at that altitude in a residential area full of trees. It was also pretty foggy. I waited patiently two hours (actually more than two, as i forgot and then remember because of the OHSU helicopter flying more recently and really shaking the building, vibrating the walls' panels and pumping outside the dust from the walls and the mineral fiber in the attick, like every time where you have an enclosed volume within elastic walls, when those walls vibrate, the air inside is getting slowly pumped outside and the other way around.) so i can look at the history of flights on Web Track. I was curious to see what airline that was. Look for yourself and wonder. Beware that data on the site is slightly erroneous as it shows the plane flying some 900 feet SE of the building and 2700 above sea level which would be 2000 above the ground, well within legal limits. I mean i couldn't have seen it from outside near the west side of the building if it was flying as it says there, right? (It is not well shown here but the building i live in is oriented NS. That site http://webtrak.bksv.com/pdx worked right for me since i first started looking until a few month ago. Map is clickable.

JR Ewing and Ceauşescu

For many years it was the only thing we were waiting to see on TVs in Romania. Saturday, at 8 or 9 PM. I think it was for a decade or so. Didn't have color. I mean there was no broadcast for color TV until 1983 and receivers until much later

Pamela and Sue Ellen were the prototypes for any male's subconscious dream. Bobby, the gentleman and JR, the tough guy. And the drunk. Larry Hagman, may God forgive him might have given a dreamy sense to many of my conationals' pre-revolutionary cirrhosises.

And yes, it is true. Dreams sometimes can be stronger than reality as a sexy woman can be more attractive than a real beautiful one. (I'm seeing all the time sexy women and poses on the internet and on TV that are sexier than sex itself.)

Why it was allowed? Now i hear Ceauşescu was a fan. He was projecting the episodes obsessively in a private cinema. But now we all also know how much a weak mind can be influenced by his own advisers and trusted entourage.

But not only that. Every singer and type of movie was imitated by different officially professional artists in Romania, and this for not to say mocked.

If it might have contributed to the demise of the communist regime in there? I'd say definitely yes. If it was not the main cause, it was a very important factor. What we knew of the west behind the iron curtain? Anything we saw on TV. But with a twist. Since most of the characters in the soap were rich, we didn't quite realize that it could not have been us and we were all fantasizing. The result can be seen even today as every man with a college degree in Romania, a bit of understanding of English when liberally drinking thinks himself rich.

But that's not all. I have a shred of suspicion that JR's face is a geometrical average between Jimmy Carter's and Bill Clinton's. I see lately less and less conspiracy theories about subliminal messages and stuff. Don't let them die because those theories might be our only hope. If we have not already succumbed to the economic crisis and dare not think any more.

My compact camera just broke. I say just broke but in reality it slowly died for a few years now. I dropped it too many times, it was all bumped at edges and the lens lid wouldn't close anymore except if i hit it strongly. Now it refuses to focus anymore no matter what. Goodbye Coolpix L18! It was one of the best spent 100 dollars!

I needed badly a small camera to fit in my pocket and still make quality pictures when i couldn't take the big DSLR with me (Sony DSLR300 that by the way has a 2/3 CCD sensor).

And started looking around. And a brand popped on the screen. An old aquiantance. In the 70s at the Children's Club in Câmpulung Suceava we used to have 16 mm film cameras that where using the AGFA brand films. They were also the magnetic tapes for recorders. And i looked in the wikipedia and saw that there is still such a brand, as a holding company, still in Germany. Most of the cameras in US today are Japanese. Never saw a compact camera brand from Germany until now.

So i ordered at Amazon an AGFAPHOTO Digital PRECISA 1430 for 75 bucks. At AGFA site it is 59,95 €. THEN i downloaded the manual and looked at the specs.

Many of the spec are smilar or slightly below competition at that price.

But a few things caught my eyes. 7 elements lens. Live Histogram. CCD sensor. Artificial Intelligence Metering (wow, what can that be ? LOL).

I keep saying for years now that CCD sensor always seemed better to me. Since there is not any on pixels processing, the signal is sent outside the sensor area for processing, the signal capturing area of the pixel is bigger than at CMOS because it's not used for other components but just for light capturing. Don't know exactly but probably twice bigger. So it captures more light and there is less noise in the output signal. Probably the equivalent CMOS sensors would be twice bigger as area. According to this theory a good CCD 2/3 sensor could give better quality pictures than a full frame CMOS but that's my opinion of course. On CCD there is also more signal uniformity because of not processing each pixel on its own different components. There are more arguments here, you can read them in the site framed at the bottom. Until i get it, without even having it on my hand i dare recommend this to all. I don't know yet if they could improve color depth as well on any compact but i will come back with that.

For my Romanian friends, i see there it is not available yet in 14 MP but there is in 12. Who needs those megapixels anyway?

"In a CCD sensor, every pixel's charge is transferred through a very limited number of output nodes (often just one) to be converted to voltage, buffered, and sent off-chip as an analog signal. All of the pixel can be devoted to light capture, and the output's uniformity (a key factor in image quality) is high. In a CMOS sensor, each pixel has its own charge-to-voltage conversion, and the sensor often also includes amplifiers, noise-correction, and digitization circuits, so that the chip outputs digital bits. These other functions increase the design complexity and reduce the area available for light capture."

Got it today 10-05. QED or this is why they say 1 picture=1000 words.

How Weather Works

First let me introduce you to the jet streams. They are four rivers of air in the sky at high altitude, that flow from the west to the east, two in the northern hemisphere and two in the southern. You cannot feel them blowing at the surface.

Their speed in the center can reach in the range of hundreds of mph and their cross-section can be in the hundreds of miles. There are a couple of pictures in the site framed below showing them.

Their existence it totally conform to the model of an atmosphere on a planet that rotates and is heated by a Sun. The phenomenon is due to the rotation of the Earth and the atmosphere at different rates at the pole and equator and the differences in temperature between poles and equator.

Their speed and direction vary constantly. Sometimes they are interrupted and start further down the stream or they merge into only one per hemisphere. But ideally they divide the atmosphere in 5 regions, two polar, one intertropical and two intermediate.

The intermediate or temperate regions are coincidentally the most livable on the planet.

By changing direction the jet stream create the so called pressure (high and low) fronts.

And yes, airlines sometimes try and save fuel flying inside the jet streams.

The thing is you can pretty much know the weather if you know the positions of the jet streams. It's that simple. It's cold north of the jet stream, warm south and right within if there is enough moisture in the air there are precipitations. Because of Bernoulli's law of course, static pressure is lower where the air flows. Lowering the static pressure of the moist air makes it condensate more and fall to the ground. Rain.

There are very few precipitations outside of the jets streams.

Meteorologists use all kind of mysterious languages trying to trick us into thinking they are true seers of the future. And they continue to keep us ignorant of a simple mechanism. It is an old and known theory and weather model.

But the question is: What if... someone could use some weird technology like very powerful microwave beams (in the GW range) heating the ionosphere above the jet streams in places where they pass most of the time trying to steer them using complicated computer models?

Or use incredible powerful supercomputers to precisely model the weather in vast regions by using various feedback networks of sensors and intervene punctually with a minimal amount of energy and again steering the jet streams?

And here is further proof of the theory on the current weather. You can click on the left in the menu for the different options of the map especially satellite, jet stream and temperature.

Film Rules

And flickr started to hiccup. After a number of pictures in my photostream they reduce the default viewing size of the picture. I also noted a significant slowdown lately. That's why i will try to move some of my better pictures here. Don't know how yet but i'll figure something. Until then here is a series i recently "digitized" from old paper prints pulled from a shoe box using my DSLRA300 from a distance when i can hear the gear in the lens getting stuck from not being able to focus anymore. That is 9 1/2 inches from the first lens element to the paper print. I hope i'm not gone break the gear again, as i did in the past when shooting at seagulls near the ocean with the lens going past the limit trying to focus at infinity. The focusing motor on that camera (which is on the camera body as opposed as being on the lens as in most current models) is a bit too strong for a cheap, stock lens, Sony DT 18-70mm.

Light source was a 50 W halogen bulb and had to move it around until i saw no more reflection in the coating of the prints. For WB on camera i used 2600K.

Each picture is enlargeable by clicking on it, best results with the middle click and opening in a new tab.

Overlapping Neural Networks

"One synapse, by itself, is more like a microprocessor--with both memory-storage and information-processing elements--than a mere on/off switch. In fact, one synapse may contain on the order of 1,000 molecular-scale switches. A single human brain has more switches than all the computers and routers and Internet connections on Earth" stanford november 2010 neuron imaging synapse processing" https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2010/11/new-imaging-method-developed-at-stanford-reveals-stunning-details-of-brain-connections.html

There are more than one type of molecular switch in a synapse, each type involving different neurotransmitters. This suggests that the synapse instead of acting as a microprocessor could change the path of the information from one neuron to another depending of what neurotransmitters prevail in that moment at the synapse. Now we can think of the brain more like a dynamically re-configurable hardware with the possibility of multiple different (or even simultaneous) "neural pathways" between the same group of neurons... And if the neurotransmitters are not spread uniformly throughout a region, there goes the "classical neural network" model in favor of some ever changing and overlapping multiple neural networks.

However, let's hypothesize that a certain combination of neurotransmitters is distributed uniformly throughout the brain at a certain time. (Although it cannot last very long since these are very dynamic processes, as  people experience instantaneous changes in mood). According to this, although my intimate belief is the model is much more complex, again, according to this, there can be different brain modes, depending of which type of molecular switches are favored or what mode the brain is or how many of the overlapping networks are activated at a certain time, and if one is dominant.

This theory would explain many abnormal behaviors and especially why the current psychiatry has come to widespread use of neurotransmitters' make-up modifying drugs.

It is obvious that until this discovery described in the article framed above was made, nobody could imagine this model.

It is possible that since memories are "written" when inside the brain a several make up of neurotransmitters is attained, to be retrieved by recreating the same combination of concentrations?

Since some neurotransmitters are associated with emotions that means that some combination of emotions at a certain time can lead to retrieving those memories?

How many things are wrong and we ignore? May 1st, 1962. According to Stellarium, a free planterium program for Linux and Windows, the Sun is within the boundaries of Arjes. I myself am not a Cancer but a Gemini. According to the same program my wife is not a Scorpius but a Libra... Etc. However, the news publications always have a horoscope section. Always wrong...

Is the difference because of the differences between the Gregorian and Julian calendar? I don't know...Why astrologers don't get serious and fix this problem? The whole Zodiac is wrong because it does not use the actual, real, scientific position of Sun within constellations...

Can't Get Weirder Than That

Something really weird happened on Veterans Day in Texas. It's been in the news for a week now. And obviously, we don't know what really happened yet and probably never will. I looked on Google News a minute ago and they are as right now over 1400 news articles on this "story"so far. By the time you are reading this post they will be more. Until one day when this news is going to die.

What we know so far.  "speed limit through Midland was increased last year from 40 mph to 60 mph in order to facilitate not blocking traffic. Also the eyewitness says the crossing gate came down right on the people, so clearly that was functioning". From a comment taken from here. It's been a week and yes, the Police ID'd the victims so far. No word on the guilty. While we assume attempts are being made to "re-conciliate" everybody involved until they go quiet.

The crossing gate came down on the people. And there is no sensor to show that and attempt to stop the train. Also probably no sensor to pick any car that by technical reasons have been caught on the rail while crossing gates are coming down.

So far i was saying to myself this is the weirdest damn thing i've read in the news lately. Then i went and opened the first link given by Google. This one. "Texas had 822 railroad crossing accidents during the three years ending in December 2011".

Lately i've been browsing job offers. For the better paying state jobs and not only, there usually are long descriptions impossible to read and understand. So many requirements i've never heard of that discourage me from even finishing reading the description. Sometimes i'm wondering if those requirements can be matched by a single individual.

But somehow i started to believe the longer the description the better is that job being "protected" from outsiders so it can be given to whoever.  There is no other explanation for what is happening there. A lot of people working for the state of Texas are not doing their jobs. I'm just curious, how many rail crossing accidents that had not made "the news" happened there since this one?

And then i realized. They shouldn't even call those "the news". They should call them... i don't know, the bait?

Ode (In Antique Metre)

by Mihai Eminescu - 1883

Never thought i could learn how to die;
Always young, covered in my mantle,
My serene dreamy eyes were searching the star
Of loneliness.

When suddenly you arose in my path
Sufferance you, painfully sweet...
To the bottom i drank the voluptuous death,

Lamentably burning alive like Nessus.
Or like Hercules poisoned by his shirt;
I can't possibly quench my fire with all
Water of the sea.

Of my own dream, consumed i am weeping,
On my own stake, i'm melting in flames...
Can i ever revive shining from it like
The Bird Phoenix?

Disappear the troubling eyes from my path,
Come again to me, sad indifference;
So i can peacefully die, myself
Give back to me!

Shawn Robert Parker

In January-June 1997 i worked at Epson Portland Incorporated assembling printers. I remembered one night on the line we did 521 printers in a 25 people team, an Epson world record. I remember the name of the supervisor, a Mexican guy. Her wife was a QA auditor and many times she was spending minutes next to me trying to figure out how i do it without making one mistake. I was at the station 4 i guess and i put 9 parts on the printer, including gears and 4 screws with an electric screwdriver. In June one day i became sick. I went home and started not to be able to sleep, eat or drink. At night i was driving my car around on the streets. I went several times to different ER rooms. After about a week or so i went to the Beaverton Police, told them some of the story. They called an ambulance that took me first to the Tuality Medical Center in Hilsboro, then to Emanuel in down town Portland and they called a cab and sent me to Pacific Gateway Hospital in Sellwood, the one who lost its license and closed after Police shot an out of control Mexican inside. It was a mental facility that treated both mental and drug related conditions. I never used drugs in my entire life. Here is my picture after being released from there

In front of what used to be Pacific Gateway Hospital,
Sellwood, OR, July 1997
(Prozac Head, can still click me!)

One of the symptoms was chocking. I only wish i knew back then where that was coming from. It was a simple nose congestion due to some allergies and was preventing me from sleeping. The other symptom was severe stomach pain. It lasted from 96 to 06. No doctor ever explained to me why but now i suspect i might be related to spine alignment because it went away after going to the chiropractor. But the pain was real and was alleviated by antacids or acid blockers that i took for many years constantly increasing the dosage.

Many weird things happened in the hospital maybe one day i will tell the stories. But let's concentrate now on something else. A couple of weeks after coming from the hospital one day i was walking on Hall Blvd and talking to my wife and thinking about going to a Romanian church. But then i changed my mind, crossed the street and went into BNC (Beaverton Church of the Nazarene). A church in the shape of an UFO.

I was well received in there. Like they were expecting me. They prayed for me laying hands on each other's shoulder.  I met pastor Dennis Swift and others.

Beaverton Church of the Nazarene, Beaverton, OR, 09/14/2012

The next day a guy shows up at our door. He asked us, me and my wife if we wanted to go for a ride in a boat. I looked over his shoulder and there was a big boat in the parking lot hooked to an old green Ford SUV. He insisted a lot and then i said yes. In the car they were his three daughters. I remember only the name of the younger one, Trinity.

Shawn Robert Parker with "his girls", near Cannon Beach, OR,
summer 1997

He took us on the Willamette river that day. Accompanied by my usual stomach pain and thirsty all the time, i didn't drink anything in the morning and Shawn only had a few cans of soda i couldn't drink because of my stomach pain. Still on Prozac. I think we started in St.John area and went all the way to Willamette Falls and back. We stopped on a channel near an island. I think we ended the day back at the Nazarene church.

I had this 83 Fairmont sitting in the parking lot for almost a year. He came one day with a 20 dollar bill and asked mE to sell it to him. The manager at the apartment already told me several times to get rid of that car so i sold it to him.

My ex 83 Ford Fairmont, at Sussex Village Apts, Beaverton, Oregon, 1997

In April 98 i was working at Quadramed. I was teaching my wife how to drive. She took the computer test and had a permit. I think i spent hundreds of hours on the right seat on Nimbus St. in Beaverton teaching her. I remember at first she was terrified by the cars that were coming on the other side of the road from the opposite direction. But in spring 98 she was driving OK and she drove all the way from Portland to Tillamook, some 70 miles. Then from Tillamook to the beach near Tillamook bay there is a narrow winding road and i kinda pushed her because i was impatient to get there but she was tired and driving under speed limit and in a sharp left curve she went with the right wheels on the gravel near the road. I think we were in legal speed limit. Quickly and gently i grabed the wheel with my left hand and corrected in time. But she reacted too after, and over corrected. Unbelievable, we went to the... left, inside the curve, we missed the bay, the huge truck parked on the right on the gravel, the incoming car from the opposite direction, made an 180 degree turn and rolled in slow motion in a ditch full of ... mud, that was soft. It is very hard to describe in words the trajectory of the car.

It took me about a minute to figure out which way was up, untigthen her seat belt and roll the driver's door down cause mine was in mud and with the broken window while she was kicking me in the head with her legs. Finally she made it outside and i followed. The only thing that happened to us was me having some scratches on my right arm from the broken passenger window.

The guy with the truck parked outside the curve, kinda illegal i think, on the right, that was kinda like waiting for us in there, with the cell in his hand. Minutes later five cop cars showed but no ambulance. But we didn't need one either. One of the cops cited my wife for careless driving with 180 dollars. Then they called a towing truck and they put our car back on the wheels and i started the engine and it was woking.

Then guess what? Shawn Parker with the girls unexpectedly showed up in a green van with windows also old i haven't seen before or after coming from the beach. He insisted we went with him back to Portland, but i was too attached to that 89 Escort GT to leave it there with the towing guys and i drove with no problems all the way to Portland. (I was also paranoid about that being a recognition of my part we've been somewhat hurt in the accident which we weren't. 04/26/2014).

Did i mentioned the prayers at BNC that morning for each of our country? Dennis repeatedly asked and we both went to the altar, me accompanied by Ron Boger and my wife by his wife. Than we had lunch at Old Country Buffet in Beaverton and i also saw a bunch of people from the church in there. Then we decided to go to the Ocean. Those days we didn't need much to take that decision because we were still young and full of energy.

This post needs to be extended. I will dig into my records to put in more data and pictures.

Remember the movie? We had ants back then too. At the other apartment. But those were bigger, more normal ants. These are tiny, 3-4 mm long. To take this picture in 12/29/2010 i used a 55 mm fixed length lens held by hand at about one inch in front of the 27-105 equivalent focal length from my Sony DSLR 300 camera with the zoom at maximum. It focuses on auto-focus. Can't remember the light source.

They are everywhere on the counter-tops. Especially on the one next to the window. Yesterday i had left about 2 ounces of pomegranate liquor in the bottle. After i drank that i went to sleep normally but woke up kinda wiped out, sort of lethargic. Cannot be the ants that possibly crawled on the bottle and touched the cap now can they? Back then when i took the picture i had traps with honey and borax but they still came. From where? The apartment underneath is vacated.

I looked again while writing this post. The ants disappeared, i can swear i saw them earlier this morning, i'm too used to them anyways. And i also heard a loud door noise and a Jeep noise under the window. The neighbor at Nr.5 left in a hurry.

June 25 2009. I went to http://www.flickr.com/photos/40225793@N07/. Gotta picture to prove. It was one day before my birthday. At the site near the entrance under a roof in the open air they were a bunch of military guys or firefighters celebrating something or having a meal and a meeting or something like that.

click me!

Next day afternoon i had my usual "anxiety attack". I knew by then that if i get out of that appartment and go anyware is going to be more bearable. (And after my wife was coming home). Now i know the cause. The same as here. All kind of smokes from burning in purpose all kind of materials in or around the building. And of course synchronized noise from different sources.

So i decided to go to my wife's work place at GE Security at 12345 SW Leveton dr. Tualatin, OR. But i didn't park in her parking lot but in the street next to it i can't remember why. Truck was facing North and i opened the truck's bed's door and sat on it enjoying the Sun and trying to calm down. At around 3:15 PM i started to hear a noise like a waterfall. At first it was smaller and then it grew constantly bigger then i thought an earthquake is going to hit then i thought the whole Niagara falls is coming in that parking lot. But none of this happened. When the noise was right before its peak i saw an elegant gray big bird like silhouette coming from above the building from the South. Then another two. Then another one. Here they were. 4 F22s flying in V formation really slow at about 100-200 ft. I thought i saw pilot's helmets in the cockpits. I was staring at the bay doors under their bellies waiting to see what was going to happen next. They went above and passed towards North. I turned and saw their tails gently balancing just above the horizon with the stabilizers moving discretely. The whole show lasted about 30 seconds. Then they disappeared over horizon with the same speed and altitude. I didn't hear any noise like increasing speed ever after. They must have flown at that altitude over the whole area in that direction, many miles of urban area. Thousands of people might have seen and hear them.

I thought i was really lucky for not peeing in my pants. I went inside the truck trying to think. Then a guy passed by. I asked him if i just saw 4 F22s flying above my head. He said smiling: Something like that, something like that...

My wife showed up. She confirmed the noise. Then i went to the liquor store. I bought some grain alcohol to mix with the blueberries we picked at a upick place, a few days earlier.

At home two guys showed in the parking lot. One was holding a device in his hands like measuring something in the air. By that time i had a filter in the bedroom's door that was pushing filtered air and building a little pressure inside so no other things can get in. Not that they didn't. My wife said i should go and talk to them but i though i had enough emotions for one day.

I was joking with my wife, "we're broke but i just saw 1 billion dollars flying above our heads!"

I Do Not Crush

By Lucian Blaga - 1919

I do not crush world's corolla of wonders
And do not kill
With my mind mysteries i meet
In my own path
In flowers, eyes or lips or graves.
Let others' light
Choke all the magic of the unseen hidden
In darkness' depth
But i,
I with my light enhance world's riddle -
Exactly how with its pale rays the Moon
Does not decrease but trembling
Increases even more night's secret
The same way i enrich the dark horizon
With shivers large of holy mystery
And all misunderstanding
Turns to an even greater one
Under my eyes -
Cause i love all
The flowers, eyes and lips and graves.

Heart Muscle Regeneration

I have always been intrigued by the muscular breakdown process during exercise. When exercising beyond your capabilities the next day you have pain and your muscles ache. But it does not help with muscle growth. In fact athletes know this and try to avoid using different techniques. (Those who cheat know that using steroids actually helps with minimizing muscular damage so they can exercise more, stimulating muscle build-up.) Then if you go for a blood test you will have the CK enzyme elevated. So what exactly happens to your dead cells after muscular breakdown?

Then i said to myself. Your own dead cells contain DNA fragments (if DNA theory is true) that can be used in different areas of the body if needed, like in heart, better than from any other source. What if when exercising your body deliberately creates muscular breakdown in areas of your body and uses the cellular remains to rebuild your damaged heart or increase heart muscle?

If this is true, how many times this process can repeat itself until your heart is not fixable anymore?

Maybe even during CPR, where sometimes there is required energetic action from the part of the reviver, some breakdown occurs in the chest area where rhythmic pressure is applied.

Then thinking even further. Maybe heart muscle can be regenerated indefinetley. And it may be a quick process, a matter of hours or even dozens of minutes. Cause that'a how long a moderate muscular breakdown lasts.

How about the nerve circuits that synchronize heart? If you take a heart cell and put it in a Petri dish with nutrients it will continue to contract, rhythmically. All heart cells can do that including the new ones. The problem is how to synchronize them. And that can take a little longer until new nerve circuits build and train themselves. In this interval, fibrillation may occasionally occur. So now how do you fix that?

Defibrillator is one way this may be done. There are people with implanted defibrilators. I always wondered why they only work occasionally. Maybe just only when the heart is at the end of a decompensated regeneration cycle. When muscle buildup has been to great to be retrained by heart's own means.

But they might exist other more or less "natural" methods. I think of the entrained walking. When one person can walk in the same rhythm of the beating heart. Some nerve impulses from other parts of the body can overlap the heart electric currents and help with the retraining process. Other methods can be brain entraining through music or noise, breath entraining, etc. Even mantras, or poetry.

I was looking on the web for a memorable phrase the guy from Computer Age Auto Service once told me, citing the Bible. It was roughly the equivalent of "in the end times people will eat their own flesh" or something like that. But there is no such thing in the Bible. He might have said one of the verses from the Bible like from Ezekiel and i didn't get it right. I was pretty messed up that day as not sleeping for days and prepared for that conversation.

On another occasion one of the more senior programers at Quadramed told me something about one's body consuming itself when starving. He specified that we consume our own muscles for staying alive when fasting.

Yet on another occasion a therapist in a hospital told me that we can use our own body fat to convert it into sugar and keep going. However that is not true. Fat can only be used for keeping body temperature and for a few other "minor" things. To have your body and especially your brain functioning you need glucose or other sugars. I think protein can be broken down to either fat or sugar.

However in all tree instances above your body shuffles his own muscles or fat in order to survive.

Bolshevik Revolution

It took place in November 7 1917. Next year in Russia the calendar changed and the date changed to October 25. I think the Russian Orthodox Church still uses the old Julian calendar for celebrations like Christmas, Easter and New Year. The Revolution brought the death of so many millions of Russians. May God forgive them all. I think in history is more important than Bram Stoker's anniversary.  During communism the street i had the first address on when i was a few days old was named November 7. I think many cities in Romania had a street named like that. It always meant the starting date of the Bolshevik Revolution. In symbolism 11-7 may be the opposite of 7-11, whatever that may be.

This whole Bram Stocker/Dracula story started to piss me off for a few years now and it may be a cover up. Bram Stocker's novel Dracula may had never been written by him (it's a known fact no copy has been sold during his lifetime) and may be a later fake. There are many things that happened to Romania's history and Romanian language after the invasion of Soviets. But my understanding is most of the original documents regarding these things are now at Moscow together with Romania's "treasure" and we cannot know exactly when those documents where taken, before or after the WW2 because of the half century of terror after that.

Rus in Norse language means men that are rowing. Basically the Russian elite was at the beginning formed by migrants from the North (Vikings) and the commoners were Slavics from the East. The first state on today's Russia was named the Kievan Rus. That's why today's Russia's population especially women look so much like Swedes. I recently found out that this happened in areas of other European countries like France ant Britain as well. I knew that after the invasion of France by Franks that came from North as well Franks became the France's elite amd Vikings came in today's Normandy and received a big chunk of land and in time they got "assimilated". A similar story happened in England. If you look into Paris's phone book you'll see three quarters of the names sound German. There are many things about written online that may be researched by anybody using... Google. Beware especially of Lenin's ethnic origin.

I was thinking of uploading the pictures i took today to g+. But the resolution there indeed is way too low. That's why i put them here. Each picture in turn is clickable. With middle click you can get maximum resolution.

Impossible Wedding

by Adrian Păunescu

Confidants, my mountains entered in the fog
Old bells made of bronze ring on abbey's roofs
When it smells like winter all the weddings froze
For us lunatics, impossible grooms.

Winds and beasts together come at you to pray
Blizzard over me fallen like a noose
I would make your wedding with a town of sleighs
Driven among lanterns with the starry horses.

Dress in white, my bride, beautifully shine
This is how it should for the play i play
Later each of us will be going home
Closed among the hills mystery will stay.

'Till all this will happen you'll be growing gray
All for me will come in the later day
It will be some wedding, we should have no fear
You'll take care of me, i will love you, dear.

Here i brought your bride, mountains closed with night
Weddings of the beasts happen in the mountains
Forests made of scents, wood that's made of sighs
Are the dancing hall of the future wedding.

Candles of the wedding in their paws the bears
Wolves are blowing in (the) fire of the sheepfold
In the rolling down we're unite by birth
You won't be my bride, i won't be your husband.

I invite you all to the wedding blue
Where the bells are pulling silver out of blue
Is too bad, for this isn't our wedding
Is too bad, to death i've been given husband.

Change of Mood

Today i woke up with things of the past in my mind. The recent past. The distant past. Pieces of the big puzzle were never closer. By looking at, also figuring very outrageous things. Choking me in the morning. Outrageous to me, scandalous to others. More than scandalous. Sad. Would i have enough time to reevaluate all my life in the light of freshly discovered facts? What for? Should i say "what i know now" and upset a lot of people? Good, working people, not like me, that carry the world on their shoulders as i write? I came to the computer to read the news. Romney getting closer. All of us getting closer. The usual paradigma. Increase of activity in other areas of the world. A local guy, rebellious again. Or another scripted thing. Other things. I can't remember what i was reading on g+ when the door next door went yet again "slam!". Al my thoughts were scrambled. As sad as they were they started trembling. My mood switched from frightened/sad to frightened/scrambled. Some neurotransmitters off the scale. Others, depleted. Choking turned to anxiety. People who have good neighbors should not take them for granted. But how would i know?

Yesterday i wanted to go to a Romanian church in Beaverton to talk to some people. I could barely steer the car. It is out of alignment. Again. At 60 mph it is hard to control. Looks like the toe (angle) is off by some some 0.5 degrees. Now i need to call Les Schwab again. It's been two weeks since the last alignment and last time was working fine. Or drive all the way to Aloha and raise the daily hell again.

Last Friday @6:00 PM a guy hit me from behind with a 04 Nissan Z car while i was waiting at a yield sign on Boones Ferry Rd and Kerr Pkwy in Lake Oswego. There is no much damage on both cars, it was steel bumper against steel bumper but it shook me pretty well especially because my head rest touches the rear window of my truck's cabin. I had headaches coming and going and intermittent back pain. I know if i didn't have my foot on the brake in that instant i would have been pushed into traffic. But i was lucky because i stopped once, i thought i can squeeze myself in traffic, i went forward, then i changed my mind, used the brakes, but still looked in the mirror because of the hesitation and saw a silver car behind me slowing down and he didn't have time to catch speed in what, a couple of meters? Then i fully stopped and looked again at the left when i felt the hit. It pressed my head against the head rest pretty strong. I had a weird sensation in the jaw. But i could move, stand and talk to the guy. He had a cell phone in his hand, he kept saying it was his fault then another guy showed and brought a pen form his nearby home so we can write down insurance information. Then i called my wife with the camera so i could take pictures but she kinda didn't want to come. Finally she came and here are the pictures. At around 7:30 i went to doctor's Express office in Boones Ferry Rd. For some reason even before the accident i was feeling really tired and now that i think there is no explanation for that. My body was totally relaxed and i think that it the reason i felt it so hard.

Kerr Parkway and Boones Ferry Rd Lake Oswego, OR

Kerr Parkway and Boones Ferry Rd Lake Oswego, OR

Last night i was feeling really weird again. No pain whatsoever. After i ate last time suddenly very sleepy. But instead of falling asleep i went in bed and used the pulse oximeter. When i was relaxing it went down all the way to 44. I think i caught it once with no pulse and got dizzy and jumped from the bed. Then i changed the batteries on the oximeter and started pacing around to raise my pulse. Then i finally realized what's happening. It is my old problem with nose congestion. I was barely breathing because my nose was congested almost completely and i was still trying to breath without realizing. Part of the reason was the filters from the stove. They weren't been cleaned in a while; But for some reason i don't understand i was totally numbed out. I used the decongestant and cleared my nose. Drank some water and this time went in the bedroom when the smell from the stove was not that bad. Fell asleep staring at the oximeter wiht no lower readings that 47. Woke up quite dizzy after about 6-7 hours. I checked again this morning and is into the 50s and i caught it a couple of times 47-48. Don't get me wrong. When i walk around it goes into the 70s and 80s. Then i used the camera to record it but is really hard because i cannot completely relax then focus the camera and film without raising the pulse a bit. I couldn't catch on camera less than 50. My pulse at rest is usually in the 50s since i can remember. Anybody can tell me why?

I remember a few years ago maybe in 2008 i once read 44 on that thing and went to the ER. They put me in a bed, and on a monitor and i used mine in a different finger and it was showing the same. They set an alarm at 50 and every time it was going there it sounded and my pulse would automatically raise. They sent me home and told me to drink some sports drinks. The copy of the EKG i got shows 50 even. I bought some Gatorade and went home. The next day i read in the news that the guy who invented Gatorade died.

This post is not finished. I will try and add things as i remember in the next days.
